LifeSpan to host FREE event in their King Ferry Offices on October 28th
Falls can happen anytime of the year, but occur most often in winter when ice and snow stand in the way of safe passage. Winter is quickly approaching and Lifespan Therapies will be holding a free Balance and Falls Risk Assessment clinic on October 28th. During this event, LifeSpan staff members will use a variety of quick tests to assess risk for falls. Participants who are found to be at risk based on the Balance and Falls Risk Assessment will be provided with tips to prevent falls as well as a variety of exercise recommendations to help improve strength and balance.
Many persons, especially seniors, are fearful of falling, which can lead to decreased participation in everyday activities, as well as increased weakness and likelihood of falling. More than 95% of all hip fractures are caused by falling, typically a fall to the side. Falls are also the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries which can be particularly life threatening when taking blood thinners. Both of these outcomes lead to decreased mobility, balance, and weakness, which can increase the risk for a fall.
LifeSpan’s goal for this clinic is to help individuals maintain independence in the community while staying safe!
