    To whom it may concern,

I would like to express my strong interest in the position of occupational therapist. I will graduate from Ithaca College once I complete my final fieldwork placement in August of 2018 with my Masters of Science in occupational therapy, and I believe that my personal, work and educational experiences have given me the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position.

In my work and academic life I have had a myriad of opportunities to work in team based settings which has adequately prepared me to work as a team member in your agency. While working as a preschool classroom aide for 2 years, I was able to collaborate with special education teachers, day care teachers, behavior specialists, social workers, speech therapists and occupational therapists to combine our competencies to provide quality and appropriate educational opportunities to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. While working as a community support professional I have worked closely with the parents of my client to address the family’s goals for the child in terms of self-care, safety and community integration. At Ithaca College I worked in their outpatient clinic in collaboration with other occupational therapy students and OTR/Ls to create goals, interventions and treatment plans for clients in a sensory gym and aquatic therapy settings.

I have a personal interest in music and often utilize music into my therapy sessions when appropriate. I either sing, use instruments or play music to alert or calm a child’s sensory system, to spark their interest or inspire relatability to an activity or to help them find rhythm while motor planning. I believe that the power of music is something that can be understood and utilized regardless of demographics and can hold significant therapeutic properties.

Thank you for taking the time to review my qualifications for the occupational therapist position. I would be happy to share my references upon request. I am very excited about this opportunity, and would appreciate the chance to interview with you.
